At the onset , lets make one thing clear .I do not intend to take anything away from the victory and congratulate the "men in blue" on their performance.

The thing which amuses me is the reaction (especially that of the Indian media) to the win. Now, I accept that the win was a huge one ,I accept that Australia are tough to beat and that incidents off the pitch made it a clash of ego's and sentiments too ,in some ways.

But ,why the shock ?

Why do television journalists seem so taken aback ? I might have missed something ,but didn't India win the 20-20 world cup not before long ? Wasn't the test series prior to the one-day tournament a closely fought one ? Haven't India destroyed the Aussies in the subcontinent almost every time ? Yes ,Australia are the world champions ,but don't India possess equally talented players ? So, why exactly are people so astonished ? A few TV channels (the ones who flash "BREAKING NEWS" when Amitabh Bachchan has a running nose) ,have gone out of their way in spreading the hysteria, projecting the event as the climax of some sort of religious crusade.

I feel this irrationally extravagant brouhaha is, infact demeaning for the Indian cricket team.It seems as if we never really believed India could beat Australia in the first place. I mean , when exactly did India get relegated from being "competitors" to "underdogs" in the contest ? How can cricket be a religion if we don't trust the Gods to ever deliver? Give us a break, we have had enough of the sensationalism .Lets just celebrate the victory and stop over-reacting for once .

Whats 'WE'???
Its those 15 member team who did the feat.. the only thing common is our nationality... They play for money, everyone covers it for money. there's no nationality involved here...
Bloody nationality if was present was erased the day Indian team lost to Bangladesh in the WC...
Anyways, why am I getting worked up for a foolish game?

True, very true,... as u wrote 'It seems as if we never really believed India could beat Australia in the first place', this thought has been and probably will be in the subconscious minds of Indians for a long time to come...sadly..

I do hate the way Indian Cricket is covered at times.. they love using extreme adjectives.
