Have you ever paid attention to what kinds of heel you are buying? I guess like me, all you gals also buy them without knowing what they are? So let me enlighten you a little on the types and variety of shoes you would see on shelf of shoe stores. Well to start with the popular category, the number one position without doubt is taken by Stilettos.

Stilettos: A stiletto is a 4 to 5 inches long thin heel shoe. No shoe collection is complete without a stiletto. They are a dream of every girl, whether she wear it or not is a secondary thing. Did you know “stiletto” is a diminutive of the Italian stilo, which means “dagger”. Yes, in ancient time stiletto was a type of dagger which was designed specifically for stabbing and thrusting. Stiletto heel can, I say, achieve the same effect if used as a weapon. But on the second thought I wouldn't want to loose my dream shoe like this. In fact I would carry a pepper spray instead, in case of emergency and run with stilettos in my hand.

Second on our list, provides total comfort and when it comes to comfort nothing can beat sandals. Sandals are an open type of footwear, consisting of a sole held to the wearer's foot by straps or thongs passing over the instep and around the ankle. Complicated, yes so it is to me….but as my teacher’s used to say definitions are definition and not hooch pooch. Sandals are choice for several reasons, firstly economy (they are less expensive than stiletto or any other kind of shoes and the best choice for small pockets), and for reasons of fashion and attractiveness (although they haven’t earned the title of ‘sexy’ but they are cool). There are various kinds of sandals like Huaraches (the woven leather footwear seen in Mexico), Yoga sandals, Clog and Zōri etc.

The third on our list is a rare combination of comfort and style. And is the second runner up for the title of ‘Sexy’, Platform heel. Platform have a wide, high sole that elevates the feet by several inches; both the toe and heel are usually elevated. In some shoes, this elevation provided greater stability. Brands like Famolare’s were famous for their rippled rubber sole on simple loafers (the brand of dreams and price…hahaha…just don’t ask). If you’d like to reminisce about platform shoes, look no further than the 1970s classic film ‘Saturday Night Fever’. In the film, platform shoes abound, and are worn by both women and men. John Travolta’s white dance shoes are an excellent example of men’s platform shoes.

Boot are one of those item for which I can never save enough. prices keep rising and designs keep changing. Even when on sale they are not less than fifteen hundred .Boots are a type of shoe that covers the foot and rise to calf and sometimes extends till thighs. Hip boots are a type of boot initially designed to be worn by river fishermen. They completely cover the legs, up to the tops of the thighs or all the way up to waist. Knee-high boots are boots that rise to the knee, or slightly under. Kinky boots ( Kinky boots is a movie as well) are boots with extreme characteristics which are intended to present a dramatic sexy appearance, as by a prostitute or dominatrix. But that does not mean the prostitute have the patent for it. Wedge boots are more common for women and often have a sole that is much thicker at the back than the front, making it a high-heel shoe or boot. Men's wedge boots, normally called "wedgies", usually have a low heel. Ankle boots cover your ankle. They can either be stilettos or block heel.

Tie Up heel is another fantasy and a wanted in women’s shoe rack. Mini skirt and tie up heel is a killer combination for Saturday night. Spool heels is wide at the top and bottom and narrower in the middle. I am sure you must have heard of Salsa heel. They are designed in such a way that it minimises any chances of getting hurt while dancing and also make sure that your heels stay in place.

So next time when you visit the store watch out.....
