We are taught to pray to God right from our childhood, right from the moment we are able to utter sensible words, from the first day of our school, the morning school prayer. When we are children we are told that if we do certain things God will love you or if you do certain other things God will punish you. The word God as good has been forcefully injected into us whether you like it or not. We have started thinking of God as a necessity in life as a problem solver as a savior. But does He/She really exist?
We go to God, ask for something, when it gets fulfilled we are happy and love God more for it. But when your wish does not get fulfilled what do you do? you still keep praying to him/her. We actually relate a co-incidence to God hearing our prayers. The entire world runs on co-incidences.
How many times in your life have you seen someone pull over his Mercedes, BMW or an Audi at a temple to pray? I personally don't have even the remotest memory of this. In fact if you notice, at most of the religious places, majority of people are from lower and middle class categories. And believe me, the scale of their devotion cannot be measured. Just imagine what would happen if God started fulfilling every plea, usually of getting rich.( Whatever you ask for assists you in making money)(Try it). Now people would say that God doesn't listen to everyone because he wants to maintain a balance. A balance between good and bad and happiness and sadness as Asaram bapu or Ramdev baba would say. Then why is it so that the rich get richer and the poor poorer? Why is it that some people are inflicted with pain, disease, abnormalities throughout their life and some stay healthy right till their death?
A never-ceasing issue concerning belief in God is the problem of evil. Epicurus's argue,
If God is willing to prevent evil, but not able? Then he is not omnipotent.
If he is able, but not willing? Then he is malevolent.
If he is both able and willing? Then why does evil exist?
If he is neither able nor willing? Then why call him God?
One night when I was taking a walk with one of my friend from Symbiosis BBA, he asked me what would I do if I came to know that my life was planned, my destiny has already been decided? I said I would still continue to live my life as it is because nothing validates your view. Our discussion came down to the point that 'we are all puppets in the hands of God'.
Close to two years have passed since this discussion took place and in the mean time I have shifted from being a Theist to an Agnostic to an Atheist(almost) so God it out out of question and have started thinking of the puppet thing this way:
Imagine a civilization far off, technically very advanced, with supernatural powers( you guessed it right, Aliens or may be someone else). Now we all have played video games which can be operated by a remote control sitting far away, right?
Has anyone played Sim city?.....
And may be God is just a mentally created illusion created by them, forced on us humans so that we never realize or even think about the reality?
