Dough la re
If Daddy is loaded and the boy is horny, sexy women will put chance on him. So what can poor little rich boy do?
Wealthy boys have too many women competing for their own good.

Khola re....khola re
These days even decent women are pushy. It so happens that a childhood romance has been simmering, over telephone calls from London and Ludhiana. So highly eligible, spoilt and horny Dev D asks for a special photograph of his faraway love, that shows a lot more than the smiling face. He gets it.

Make you wish you had wealth and a foreign education and an agreeable woman waiting for you in Ludhiana or Chandigarh.

DEV D is Devdas version 3.1 : Low Budget, but poora paisa vasool...
This is a faster, sexier, raunchier, bolder film, than anything that you have seen in recent times.
Devdas 1, 2,3 versions were set in olden days. You could call Dev D a modern day, stylised version. The movie that really has its own firm take on man-woman, lust, ego, love, hate and rejection. You have no time to make up your mind about what should happen next or what to expect.

The character Dev D is narcissistic, carries a cute smile, is randy.....Bouncing from one woman to the next. You hate his guts. The spunky Paro is his childhood sweetheart, who would have "given" everything. But in comes an uninhibited Delhi girl, who wouldnt miss the novelty of S-E-X in a farm house. He doesn’t resist.

He loses Paro to a whim. Because the old fashioned male cannot accept Paro as anything but pure, while he can have fun.A bohemian life follows, spent in a lodge - dazed, drinking and doping, womanising, and finally Chanda.

Whore la re
Chanda is a marvelous invention of this movie, who happens to be a sexy and white skinned, but also an Indian who speaks fluent Hindi (I think we'll see more of those in movies to come), She was an adolescent girl of mixed Indian-Canadian parentage, growing up in Delhi. She unfortunately got caught in an infamous MMS sex video which destroys her family, her childhood, and her life takes a plunge. She runs away and turns into a modern day Chandramukhi, the prostitute.

I think she is the best thing in the movie. Without any tears shed you can feel her pain. But there is deviation from the earlier Devdas script. Her life is not the endless tragedy. She knows what she has lost, yet has control, and goes about life in a very matter of fact way - college in the morning, a highly sought after sex worker in the evening.

But she is capable of love. "You are a slut" She tells him, and "You only love yourself".

She can feel his pain. She wants him to share it.She wants to love him. He's finally able to see thru himself. There is happiness for them both. He is the golf ball and she is the hole that the golf ball finally sinks into.

This is a great movie, clarity of roles, precise detailing of the Delhi underbelly, shady bar and drug joints, the foreign prostitutes, the squalour of his hotel room, the bus & metro rides all bring real life feel. Abhay Deol is very convincing in the way he smiles and droops his drugged eyes....every role he does has such complexities and tragedy hidden. He has just taken off from where left in Oye Lucky.

A little note about Paro. The tragedienne has lost her love, but has hardened to her reality. In a very tense sequence she meets him in his hotel room, washes his clothes, but when he tries to seduce her, her eyes are cold, she is lifeless.

A trio of dancers in the bar provide the artistic backdrop to the movie...."Tera emotional Atyachar" is going to be the anthem of these times. "Saali khushi" is beautiful. It is an intelligent movie. Background score rocks. It is very funny too. Director Anurag Kashyap ki Jai

Yes the movie does have long brooding parts, the pace slows down somewhat. Some may wonder if Abhay has got typecast with his deadpan, tapori type expressions.

Dekhne ka. Bola re.
