Rawalpindi Express Derailed
Shoaib Akhtar, a chronic patient of foot in mouth disease has managed to get himself into yet another controversy. The bowler, who was under a probation period after his 349th controversy in his career apparently made some critical statements about the Pakistan Cricket Board which didn't exactly go down well with the board.
Now while I totally agree that the PCB is a bunch of corrupt money hungry uncles just like the BCCI and ICC, Akhtar should've known better too. I mean how long before you learn to conduct yourself better on and off the field?
But the PCB seems to be in overkill mood as well. Chalo its one thing to teach Shoaib a lesson, but a 5 year ban is as good as giving him a Compulsory Retirement. But Akhtar's misfortune does not stop there. Not only has the PCB more or less sealed the fate of his international career, they have sued him for $200 million and have also made sure that he doesn't play in the IPL as well and earn a super fat cheque to pay this amount off.
The message from the PCB is clear, first knock the man down, then kick him when he's down, then take all his money and kick some dirt in his face just for the fun of it.
Regardless how juvenile Akhtar is as a person, one cannot deny that cricket stands to lose a lot in his absence. Sad no?
