I think we are headed in that direction. When you have BIG bands coming down, there has to be a marketing potential here and coupla full house gigs have proved the point. Yes,its concentrated only in Bangalore and Mumbai for the moment, but its a big change from lets say 10 years ago. And look at most cultural festivals, a rock band has become an essential part of it in colleges apart from the number of amateur rock bands outnumbering other genre bands.
We don't need Bollywood stars as mere accessories to make rock popular but lovers of rock like Saif Ali Khan do make a difference.
Though a movie by SRK on rock or something am sure will lead to hundreds of Rock Schools around India teaching your kids how to be a rock star and coupla Mera Rock Idol shows on TV etc etc.... Fad Crazy India
3000 is a long shot but one could always hope, bollywood stars are complete contrast to this, maybe itl pull the crowd but that'l be because of shah'ROCK-kaha'-n hre-think roshan and not because of double bass drumming or death metal love. The conversation would go somethin like this:
shahruk mania man 1 : ehh yeh toh shahruk khan ka act khatam
shahrruk struck disco dewana 2: haan abhi yeh lambe baal wale log kon hai stage pe?
shahruk mania man 1 : kuch chimaira, fear factory bole rahe hai
shahrruk struck disco dewana 2: yeh bahar jaane ka rasta kaha hai?
bollywood stars can pull the crowd but not for the love of metal, its better to have a small crowd who appreciates every riff, every distortion, every growl thats being unleashed brutally
Well, to be honest, u can't predict what's in store next. Until and unless the masses (read: people who dislike rock or are unaware of it) don't realize that rock/metal is not only bout screaming ur guts out, the current plight of the genre will continue, even if our stammering so called 'actors' appeal. But whatever, I don't give a tiny rat's @ss, cuz i love metal.
