So we've all seen those ads on TV from Fropper -India's no.1 Dating and friendship site, haven't we? I'm sure none of us gave sh*t abt it. But yes, one of my friends was jobless enough to sign up ( after all, she does have accounts on Orkut, Hi5, Tagged, Zorpia, iAlmond, Bingbox and some 10 other friendship sites). After she joined, she couldn't stop telling me what a riot the place is! I got tempted to have a laugh and joined Fropper myself, and let me tell you, you don't need joke books anymor…

So what if i was born in Punjab????? I can't believe it, but that silly state seems to have passed on their worst attribute to me: BIG FEET. Ok so maybe thats not much of an issue on first glance, but really over a period of time, say...years, I am getting frustrated with my so called big feet. Maybe, yeah they're cool for kicking butt, but thats all they'll ever be cool for!!! Try getting shoes for them, it's an impossible task. I walk in and out of the best stores and NONE of the shoes in the…

Welcome to the world of innovative gaming! Here's me showing a little love for all you hardcore (and not so hardcore...) gamers out there. If any game can go to the heights of being ABS-OH-LOOT-LEY DIS-GHUS-TING, it has to be the Nintendo Wii. Ok, so the Wii is so absolutely fabyoolus that it can ask x-box to go to the bhaad, but Nintendo wii- and japanese people- has now reached the pinnacle of love for gaming.
Let me introduce you to their brand new game..... *drum roll* (as paperslut would s…

hi Vvi.
Ya, its me, Harshad Barge... The semi-terrorist of Club Jam...
Just kiddin.. Long time, Well, you a journo student and I thought this thing I came across the net might come handy:
There is this group on yahoo called 'Bharat Uday Mission' (http://groups.yahoo.com/group/bharatudaymission/) As fat as my stint with this group is concerned, its the only group making a really honest effort towards the upliftment of the grass-root-level population of this country..
This one mail i recieved I thought I should share with you as you might be able to showcase it in a much better fashion than me so, here is an excerpt:
Dear Friends
My name is Pushkar Bhatnagar, from New Delhi and I am a new member of
this agile and motivated group. I firmly believe that you,
collectively, hold the destiny of this country.
We have widespread poverty all around and the biggest irony of our
country is that filthy rich co-exist with starving poor. If those who
are capable of supporting a few poor people start taking the
initiative, the face of India can change overnighte.
In my own little way I contribute my mite to improve the conditions
of a few of my fellow countrymen, in Orissa (Bhadrak District.). It
doesn't cost much. If an average earner like me could do it why not
most of us? Here I am giving the details of how I make a small and
very inadequate contribution to help about 60 families there. I
happened to see the poverty in Orissa with my own eyes and noted how
the people live there in sub-human conditions.
The families that I support are the ones where the earning member is
either dead or is handicapped. Mainly these families have only
children, aged persons and women. Some families have earning members
but they are too poor to feed two square meals to their children. You
will be shocked that to their young children, they feed very small
quantities of food at around 4 p.m. in the evening so that it takes
care of both lunch and dinner. One meal, that too not full, for young
children of 8-9 years. They have nothing more to eat. Just imagine,
what is the fault of these young ones, they even do not understand
the reason for their misery. And they do not ask for moon either.
What they demand is just two full meals a day. I also have two young
children and I know how painful it is if they ask for something and I
am not in a position to give it to them.
I found that rice is the staple diet there and good quality of rice,
that they prefer to eat, costs only about Rs. 8/- to 9/- per kg. One
family, of 5-6 persons, needs about 25 kg. of rice for the entire
month. So a mere 200 rupees can support a family of 6 persons for a
full month. For those who stay in metros – what is the value of Rs.
200/- ? Perhaps a movie ticket costs this much but for those persons
in Orissa, it means food for one family for one full month.
When I began this work, I used to send Rs. 6000/- per month as we had
identified only 30 families. My own local contact there in Bhadrak,
buys the rice locally and distributes to these families on a
particular day once a month. By the grace of god, my family has
extended now to about 65 homes. For doing this, I have to save from
avoidable expenditure - like I do not take ny family out for dinners,
we do not watch movies at theatre and buy only very limited clothes
etc.
I decided to post these details about my 'Part-time Passion" to show
that contrary to the normal perception, it does not cost much to
support a family. All of us are capable of doing such work, all that
is needed is a small initiative and desire to feel involved in the
work of making my country a better place in world.
Thanks for reading and your patience.
Pushkar
